Cordoba overview

Cordoba, the former capital of Roman Hispania and of Arab Al-Andalus, boasts an incredible wealth of ancient architecture and is capital of the province of the same name in the Andalusia region of Spain. It sits down in the southwest on the way to Seville from Madrid and is a medium-sized city boasting World Heritage status on account of its cultural richness. Set up by the Romans and eventually taken by the Arab Moors, Cordoba today has a mind-boggling collection of ancient buildings that are dispersed amid a veritable warren of tight alleys and picturesque squares. The highlight is the Great Mosque, one of the finest Muslim monuments in Europe, while a decent collection of tapas joints and parks adds further appeal. Fast trains come in from Madrid.
