Fuerteventura overview

One of the largest and most visited of the Canary Islands, which lie off the coast of West Africa, Fuerteventura is known for its sublime beaches, easy-going towns and surf. Like the others in the archipelago, Fuerteventura is volcanic in origin and displays otherworldly landscapes in the interior which slopes down to remarkable beaches. Puerto Rosario is its capital, Corralejo is the main centre in the north and Betancuria, the former capital, is the old centre in the middle. Fuerteventura translates as strong winds and the best of the surf and windsurf is down in the south. Getting in is by way Puerto del Rosario Airport and ferries come in from the other islands.
