Girona overview

Girona Travel Guide
‘The city of 1,000 sieges’ is extremely old and picturesque. The architecture of the Girona provincial capital is as varied and impressive as the folks that built it up. The city lies down in the Ter Valley in the Spanish northeast, not far from the Pyrenees and French border, and is surrounded by mountains and hemmed in with ancient walls. The streets are impossibly narrow and have imposing lines of shop houses all along them, while the old part of the town is strewn across a hillside and pockmarked with intricate structures. Fine examples of Girona’s architectural prowess include the Gironella Tower, Girona Cathedral, and the ancient houses on the Onyar. The town also has a decent amount of shopping, eating and nightlife, while the beaches of the Costa Daurada are well within reach.
