Valladolid overview

Valladolid is the capital city of the Spanish province Castile-Leon and it is located about 200kms northwest of Madrid. First impressions of the city is that it is just an ugly, modern industrialised city but if you look closely there are a lot of reminders of the medieval town where the well travelled explorer Christopher Columbus died. If you enjoy history, there are endless museums, monuments and churches to explore and Spain’s second oldest university is also here and it was founded in the 13th century. The city’s claim to fame is that they speak the purest version of Castilian in Spain, but if you can’t speak Castilian, this feat may be somewhat unremarkable.
